Complementary therapies

Welcome to our comprehensive approach to IVF support, where we offer two complementary therapy services – nutrition and acupuncture – to help enhance your chances of a successful IVF outcome.

Harnessing potential

By harnessing the potential of both nutrition and acupuncture, we aim to optimise your reproductive health, increase the success of your IVF procedure, and boost your overall well-being.

Our expert team

Our team of experienced nutritionists and licensed acupuncturists are dedicated to supporting you throughout your IVF process. With their specialised knowledge and deep understanding of fertility, they offer personalised guidance and care, tailoring their services to your unique needs and goals. You can trust in their expertise as they guide you on your journey.

Nutrition care

Health and lifestyle are an important factor when undergoing fertility treatment, and nutrition is vital for a healthy pregnancy.

A one-hour consultation with our nutritionist is provided for free to all our self-funding patients who are undergoing IVF treatment (we also include a 30-minute consultation with all Fertility Health and Wellbeing testing packages.)

Personalised support

The nutritionist will help create a personal plan of action to tackle any conditions or issues affecting you. The plan will be practical to fit in with your lifestyle and will address any imbalances you may have.

Issues affecting you could include:

  • Low egg reserve (egg stores)
  • Unexplained infertility
  • Previous miscarriage
  • Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS)
  • Weight optimisation
  • Male/sperm issues

Optimising your success

For an additional charge, further sessions can be arranged.

Addressing your nutrition will make a positive contribution to your fertility and, by optimising the quality of your eggs and sperm, will give your IVF treatment the best chance of success.

Our nutritionist

Angela Attwood nutritionist - complementary therapy services

Angela Attwood is a member of the British Association for Nutrition and Lifestyle Medicine and is registered with the Complementary and Natural Healthcare Council.

Angela’s first encounter with nutritional therapy was as a patient during her own treatment for cancer.

Her experience was so positive that she went on to study nutritional therapy and has always been reassured and inspired by the fact that it is based on scientific evidence that is continually advancing and evolving.

“My recommendations have been amazing; I’ve been easily eating over 30 plant-based foods a week. I have fish twice a week (one of which being salmon) and eat flax seeds in my breakfast every morning. Thank you so much.”

“My urine and blood test were both positive! I honestly can’t believe it. Fingers crossed now for a healthy successful pregnancy.”

Acupuncture for IVF patients with frozen embryo transfers

Discover the benefits of acupuncture as a complementary therapy during your frozen embryo transfer (FET) experience. Sessions can be purchased as an Acupuncture FET package.

Acupuncture, rooted in traditional Chinese medicine, helps your body to prepare and deeply relax on your embryo transfer day.

We have carefully designed our acupuncture schedule to integrate with your embryo transfer process at Cambridge Bourn Hall. You will receive acupuncture treatments immediately before and after your transfer, as well as a preparatory treatment prior to your embryo transfer day. Typically, the preparatory treatment will be scheduled during your scan day visit to Bourn Hall in Cambridge.

Supporting your FET experience

Acupuncture effectively promotes a deep state of relaxation and could:

  • Reduce stress and anxiety, that is common during IVF
  • Improve sleep quality, crucial during the FET process
  • Help in potentially calming uterine contractions
