Heterosexual Couples
Deciding to grow your family is a big step, and it can be really stressful if things don’t go as smoothly as you hoped. If you and your partner are trying to have a baby but it’s taking longer than expected, or if you've experienced more than one miscarriage, it might be worth exploring your fertility options.
Looking into fertility testing and treatments is a natural next step, and with so much information available, we're here to make it as simple as possible
Starting your fertility journey
Preparation for treatment and fertility testing options
There are numerous reasons why some couples have difficulty conceiving. At Bourn Hall, we offer preparation for treatment packages which includes a consultation and preparing a personalised treatment plan for you.
Fertility testing delivers answers and can help reassure you and give you the peace of mind that you deserve.
We have a number of tests available to help you discover if you or your partner have any fertility issues, and even if the results aren’t what you were hoping for, they can serve as a guide to help you identify the appropriate next step on your fertility journey.
Fertility treatments
Fertility treatments aim to help you and your partner realise your dreams of having a baby. Depending on the results of your fertility tests, a number of options could be suitable for you and your partner.
In Vitro Fertilisation (IVF)
A treatment where eggs are fertilised by sperm in a lab, then transferred to the womb, offering hope to individuals or couples facing difficulties conceiving naturally.
Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI)
Sometimes conventional IVF needs a helping hand. Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI) is a lab technique that may be appropriate for you, if your sperm needs a bit of extra help to achieve successful fertilisation.
Intrauterine Insemination (IUI)
A fertility treatment where sperm is placed directly into the womb during ovulation, helping to increase the likelihood of sperm reaching and fertilising an egg.
PGT-A (Genetic testing)
A screening method used during IVF to check embryos for chromosomal abnormalities, helping to select the healthiest embryos for transfer, enhancing the chances of a successful pregnancy.
Treatments Using a Donor
Assisted reproductive treatments that involve the use of donated sperm, eggs, or embryos to help individuals or couples achieve pregnancy when using their own may not be possible.
Surrogacy
In some cases, potential parents need the help of another person to carry and deliver their baby for them – a process known as surrogacy.

Egg freezing
A process where eggs are collected and preserved through freezing, allowing individuals to store healthy eggs for future use, offering flexibility and reassurance for those wishing to delay pregnancy.
Embryo freezing
A process where embryos, created through IVF, are frozen and stored, allowing couples or individuals the chance to use them for future attempts at pregnancy when the timing feels right.
Sperm freezing
A method where sperm is collected, frozen, and stored for future use, giving individuals the option to preserve their fertility, often before medical treatments or for family planning.
