Sylvia and Roger fond farewell
20 Dec 2016
We have said a fond farewell to two popular members of staff who have retired this month.
Sylvia Walker has worked for Bourn Hall for 17 years in our Catering department and at the age of 72 has finally decided to hang up her piny! Sylvia and her husband plan to retire to Norfolk where they can enjoy long walks together. Sylvia has looked after us all so well for all these years and knows what everyone likes for their lunch! (Sylvia is pictured (below centre) with Vivien Collins and her catering and reception colleagues)
Roger Simons worked at Bourn Hall as an embryologist in the early days with Steptoe and Edwards – the IVF pioneers. He continued his career in embryology in London but returned ‘home’ to Bourn Hall at the age of 60 in 2009. In his retirement Roger will have more time to enjoy playing his brass baritone, something of a family tradition, and undertaking his role as secretary for Royston Town band. A joint retirement ‘do’ was held in December at Bourn Hall Cambridge where everyone enjoyed a lovely spread, some heartfelt speeches and a couple of very special cakes.
We know Roger and Sylvia will miss Bourn Hall and we will miss them too. We wish them both a very happy Christmas and send love from all their friends at Bourn Hall for a happy retirement.

“We went to an open evening at Bourn Hall Wickford and came away feeling really positive about the place. The staff were really friendly and the presentation was clear about the statistics regarding success rates and live birth rates; their data was very transparent. We came away feeling like we would really be looked after.”

“We chose to make an appointment at Bourn Hall Wickford because of the favourable reviews. When we got there and met the staff they were just so lovely, making us feel welcome and explaining to us what tests would need to be done and what our options were; we just thought ‘yes, let’s get the ball rolling!”
